Hospital management system for Lagos hospitals

Lagos private hospitals renew with HEFAMAA every year and see a growing share of insured patients now that ILERA EKO enrolment is compulsory. The system you run has to keep up with both.

Quick answer. A Lagos private hospital registers with HEFAMAA and renews every year online through e-HEFAMAA, and since the July 2024 Executive Order enrolment in LASHMA's ILERA EKO scheme is compulsory for all residents. Hospital software for Lagos needs scheme and HMO details on every patient record, billing that invoices each payer correctly, and records that are easy to produce at inspection.

Who regulates a private hospital in Lagos

  • Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA)

Registers every private hospital, clinic, diagnostic centre and maternity home in Lagos. Registration is renewed every year online through the e-HEFAMAA portal; first-time applicants are inspected before approval, and operating unregistered gets a facility sealed.

  • Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA)

Runs ILERA EKO, the state health insurance scheme, under the Lagos State Health Scheme Law No. 4 of 2015. Hospitals empanelled under ILERA EKO verify enrollees and claim through LASHMA.

  • National bodies

NHIA for federal health insurance, the MDCN and other professional councils for staff registration, and the NDPC for patient data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

The full detail, including renewal cycles and inspection checks, is in our guide to Lagos State hospital regulations.

Health insurance in Lagos State

ILERA EKO is run by LASHMA. An Executive Order of 16 July 2024 made enrolment compulsory for all Lagos residents, and in January 2026 the state appointed enforcement leads, starting with government ministries and agencies. For hospitals that means more patients arriving with an ILERA EKO number, an eligibility check at registration and claims in LASHMA's format.

Most Lagos private hospitals also see federal NHIA enrollees and patients on several private HMOs, each with its own tariff and authorisation rules.

Every state’s agency, scheme and official website is listed in our directory of Nigerian state health insurance schemes.

What a hospital system has to handle here

  • Each patient's ILERA EKO, NHIA or HMO number captured once at registration and visible to billing
  • Invoices split by payer across consultation, lab, pharmacy, ward and procedures
  • Staff, licence and facility records that are quick to produce for the yearly HEFAMAA renewal
  • Patient data handled under the NDPA, with access tied to each staff member's role
  • Work that carries on when the network drops and syncs when it returns

How NaijaHealth fits a Lagos hospital

NaijaHealth puts the patient record, appointments, lab, pharmacy and wards in one browser-based system. Each patient profile holds their NHIA number, their NIN (stored encrypted) and their HMO details, and billing invoices across consultation, lab, pharmacy, ward and procedures. If the connection drops, work is held and synced once you are back online.

Be clear on one point before you compare: full NHIA claims submission and NIN verification are still in development. We would rather you heard that here than in a demo.
